Single-use coffee cups for hot and cold beverages are included in a province-wide recycling program managed by Recycle BC. Once these containers are empty and rinsed, many municipalities accept them in the curbside recycling collection program as containers (not as paper). The lids from these containers are also included, but the lids must be separated from the cup itself. Some municipalities do not accept these items in their curbside recycling; however, there are recycling depots across the province that accept these for free drop-off. For information on local recycling options, contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline.

Please note that this program only includes cups that are sold as “packaging” with a liquid or food item inside at the time of purchase. Plastic straws are not included in this recycling program since they are not considered to be packaging under the Recycling Regulation. They are garbage at this time.
