How do I recycle my smoke or carbon monoxide alarm?

Warning message

Some recycling and solid waste facilities are temporarily closed, operating with reduced hours, or accepting a limited range of materials – please call ahead. Consider delaying your visit to facilities unless absolutely necessary by storing dry recyclables and other items at home temporarily.

Product Care Recycling currently manages the provincial recycling program for used or expired smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms. This program excludes units that are connected to building-wide monitoring or alarm systems.

The maximum number of smoke and CO alarms accepted at one time is 40. If you have more than 40 units, please contact Product Care directly to arrange for collection - available here. For smaller volumes, contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline or visit the Product Care website to find the nearest free drop-off location.
