Where can I take my microwave for recycling?

Warning message

Some recycling and solid waste facilities are temporarily closed, operating with reduced hours, or accepting a limited range of materials – please call ahead. Consider delaying your visit to facilities unless absolutely necessary by storing dry recyclables and other items at home temporarily.

Canadian Electrical Stewardship Association manages a province-wide recycling program for small electrical appliances called ElectroRecycle, which includes countertop microwaves. Through this program, small appliances can be dropped off for free at a number of designated ElectroRecycle depots across the province. All items should be returned in a clean state with no food or liquid residue. Built-in or over-the-range microwaves, however, are not included in this program and are part of the Major Appliance Recycling Roundtable (MARR) program instead. Visit the ElectroRecycle website for a list of drop off locations for countertop microwaves, or contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline to find the nearest drop-off location for microwaves of all types.
