RCBC Receives Vancity Grant for Circular BC

The Recycling Council of British Columbia (RCBC) is proud to announce the receipt of a $25,000 grant from the Vancity enviroFund program, being one of 25 recipients for 2023.

The enviroFund program, focused on reducing carbon emissions and fostering low-carbon lifestyles, has allocated these funds to RCBC for its Circular BC project. This initiative involves the redevelopment and expansion of the Information Services program’s database. The aim is to address inquiries from British Columbia’s residents, businesses, and governments regarding products and materials at the end of their lifecycle.

Lyndsay Poaps, Executive Director of RCBC, emphasized, “Our goal is to decrease the consumption of new natural resources and foster a transition to a low-carbon economy. The Circular BC project will connect decarbonization to the circular economy, showcasing that participation in circular practices contributes to climate action.”

RCBC, Canada’s longest-serving recycling council since 1974, has been at the forefront of waste reduction education. Through services like the Recycling Hotline and the online Recyclepedia tool, the organization provides crucial information for the more than 200,000 inquiries received from British Columbians annually.

Eric Hargrave, Operations Manager for Information Services, highlighted the impact of the grant: “With an expanded database and improved access, our Information Services program will offer British Columbians an unparalleled resource for participating in the circular economy by reducing consumption, diverting materials, and responsibly disposing of products.”

RCBC brings together local, regional, and provincial governments, businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals to collaborate on long-term sustainability goals, working towards a world without waste.
