Where can I recycle commercial or industrial light fixtures? Are ballasts included as well?

Warning message

Some recycling and solid waste facilities are temporarily closed, operating with reduced hours, or accepting a limited range of materials – please call ahead. Consider delaying your visit to facilities unless absolutely necessary by storing dry recyclables and other items at home temporarily.

Commercial or industrial light fixtures can be dropped off for free at various depots throughout the province. To locate your nearest depot, visit the Product Care Recycling website, or call the RCBC Recycling Hotline.

Many locations also accept light ballasts for recycling, provided they do NOT contain Polychlorinated Biphenyl, or PCB, based oils.  Ballasts manufactured prior to 1980 may contain PCB’s, and will need proper shipping and handling procedures for disposal through the Product Care LightRecycle program.  If you believe that your ballast does contain PCB’s, or if you are unsure, review the Product Care website’s information guide on ballast identification and disposal procedures. Alternatively, contact the LightRecycle program directly.  They can be reached at 1-888-772-9772, extension 236.  Product Care staff will be able to identify whether your ballast contains PCB`s or not, and can also arrange for transport of your PCB ballasts if necessary.  For further information on these options, you may also call the RCBC Recycling Hotline.
