I have sensitive materials on my computer. How do I ensure they are destroyed?

Warning message

Some recycling and solid waste facilities are temporarily closed, operating with reduced hours, or accepting a limited range of materials – please call ahead. Consider delaying your visit to facilities unless absolutely necessary by storing dry recyclables and other items at home temporarily.

To ensure identity and theft protection, it is important that you remove all sensitive and personal information from your electronics prior to donating or recycling them. Purchase data shredding software from your local office supply store or call the RCBC Recycling Hotline for companies providing data shredding services.

While the Return-It electronics recycling program in BC does not reuse or refurbish any of the materials collected, they cannot guarantee full privacy protection or accept liability for any security issues that may arise. For more information on methods of data security and deletion, please visit the Return-It website.
