Can I take my beverage containers back to where I purchased them?

Warning message

Some recycling and solid waste facilities are temporarily closed, operating with reduced hours, or accepting a limited range of materials – please call ahead. Consider delaying your visit to facilities unless absolutely necessary by storing dry recyclables and other items at home temporarily.

Yes. By law, consumers are entitled to receive a full deposit refund for up to 24 containers per person, per day on any brand and size sold in the store.  Depending on the situation, some retailers do put some restrictions on these rules.  Contact Return-It for more information.

The deposit program excludes milk and milk substitute containers; these must be returned to a participating Recycle BC depot or placed in many blue box collection programs.  Contact the RCBC Recycling Hotline for more information.
